Last year a friend of mine was taking a class in Baltimore for a week. She happened to mention that she was going to be there alone and I should come up. If you are my friend or really even just a stranger this is very dangerous ground because if there is any way possible I will take you up on it!! I have sickness, I want to go any and everywhere!!
I had two days in Baltimore to entertain myself so I decided the first day to walk around and just see what I could find interesting. I ended up getting on a Water Taxi and as I always do started asking questions, to the visitors, the workers and basically anyone that would talk. I ended up at almost every stop but my favorite two were lunch at Fells Points, for a soft shell Crab Sandwich
Next was the birthplace of The Star Spangled Banner. As I got off the boat and I really had no idea what I would find, I had not done any research. I was very impressed and moved by Fort McHenry and the presentation. There was a museum with Mementos and then a viewing area where they showed a short film about the Battle of Baltimore and how Francis Scott Key watched from a boat at the battle throughout the night. The next morning they awaited for the Sun to come up so that they could see who had won the battle by which flag was flying at the Fort! At the End they played the Star Spangled Banner and the screen rose and you viewed the original flag pole with the American Flag waving!! It was so patriotic and I can’t imagine that everyone in that room didn’t have the same lump in their throat that I did as we all stood and watched the Flag wave.
This really is a must do if you are in the Baltimore Area!! Hope you all Have a Happy Fourth of JULY!!
