Axe falls on Hilton Axon Rewards

After last months dismal devaluation of Hilton Honors points  where many hotel property categories shifted up, we were all wondering what was going to happen with the Hilton Honors Axon rewards redemptions for American Express cardholders. Speculation was that there would be no changes, or a massive change to reward levels.

Now is the Time to Abandon Hilton

The axe has fallen on the American Express discounted Axon Rewards as of June 15, 2013 according to the letter mailed from American Express and received in my mail today.  Current category 5, 6, and 7 properties will see an increase from 5k to 45k point per four night block.  In addition new award redemptions for category 8, 9, and 10 properties have been announced for stays booked on or after June 10, 2013, which means you can not even book these categories in the discounted 4 night Axon level until after June 10 as they are new category levels.

The scan of the chart below speaks for itself:

Joshua Pickles also known as “mrpickles” has been writing on the forum since 2009 and more recently on the forum telling stories of racking up huge amounts of frequent flyer miles in a short period of time. Primarily focusing on American Airlines AAdvantage miles mrpickles found notoriety in December 2009 when The Wall Street Journal wrote a front page article which featured a story that hinted about how mrpickles earned American Airlines lifetime Platinum status without ever stepping on an American Airlines flight. NBC News affiliate in Washington, D.C. posted on their website about mrpickles “If that’s not a true American hero, nobody is.”
