In January a blogger wrote about the Suntrust Delta Debit card being available to everyone. According to this post on flyertalk a member of Suntrust Bank’s Delta Airlines debit card program has been notified that their account is being shut down. According to the Flyertalk member:
I received a letter from ST notifying me that it is closing my accounts. I was surprised since I had not heard of this happening to anyone. Letter was written in typical corporate speak, but the bottom line is that my banking relationship with them no longer meets their “corporate objectives.” I could see how that would be the case since they probably no longer need my deposits to meet their regulatory benchmarks. I am sad that my Skypesos printing machine is being shut down, but it was a good run. RIP.
I have had a Suntrust Delta debit card since June of 2012 and have earned under a half a million Delta Airlines Skymiles by purchasing money orders at Walmart and transferring funds to my American Express Bluebird card free of charge at a Walmart store. I also use the card for other small purchases instead of using small change or cash. In addition most of my paycheck is direct deposited every two weeks, so I exercise the card in additional ways. but this may be a change in corporate objectives that we do not want to see as the miles do not expire and they have been so easy to earn. This one report by a flyertalk member does not paint a broad picture of what is happening at Suntrust, but you should be aware that they are looking at accounts. And we don’t know if the flyer-talker had abused their account privileges.
Have you received one of these letters? Do use use the debit card to add to your stash of miles and points? Are bloggers killing deals? I am not suggesting that by telling everyone about this deal that he killed it at all. Be sure to sign up for my mailing list in the email notification box on the top right side of this page.
