This offer should stack with American’s 25,000 bonus redeemable miles offer for flights from the US to Europe flown by January 31st, but you’ll want to register for the promotion on American’s website prior to buying a ticket.

Now here’s where the magic happens–you need to sign up for an annual AARP membership.  Don’t worry, there’s no age restriction to sign up and it costs under $15 per year.  AARP members receive excellent discounts on British Airways flights ($40 on coach, $400 on business class).  I purchased a three-year membership for under $40 and I’m now a card-holding member of the AARP, at age 27.

Once you’re logged into the AARP’s website, you’ll need to search for British Airways.  Click the BA discount link.  The link will take you to British Airways’ website where you’ll again search for your flight.  Once you select your flight, the cost will be $1,498 but we’re still not done.  You can enter the promotional code: CARDFORU which provides an additional 10% off.  This card was provided to folks who have the British Airways Visa Signature Card, but it appears to work even if you do not have the card.  Your screen should look like this:

You’ll likely want to enter your American Airlines AAdvantage information when designating your frequent flier program which will allow you to earn elite and redeemable miles on American Airlines.  After you book, you’ll have 24 hours to call British Airways to cancel your flight for free.
