NYC Freedom Tower with 9\/11 Memorial Art<\/em><\/p>\n

When you visit New York, you’ll have to stop by the 9\/11 Memorial. \u00a0The 9\/11 Memorial is located on the former site of the twin towers, in downtown Manhattan. \u00a0The memorial itself includes a museum, two large water-filled memorial pits, and what appears to be an interesting piece of art (it was still under construction).<\/p>\n

The large pits were breathtaking. \u00a0There are two pits–one for each tower–and they\u00a0are located where the towers once stood. \u00a0Water flows down the side of the pit and falls into a large pool surrounded by lights. \u00a0The water then falls into a pit that is so deep you cannot see the bottom. \u00a0The sound of the falling water is impressive and helps drown out the sound of the surrounding city. \u00a0Each\u00a0pit is surrounded by a large metal plate that is engraved with the names of the folks who died when the twin towers collapsed, as well as folks who died at the Pentagon and in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n

The large white fin-looking structure was under construction so I’m not exactly sure what it is. \u00a0It appears to be some sort of artwork?<\/p>\n

The museum had a long\u00a0line of people waiting to enter. \u00a0Unfortunately, I was unable to enter the museum before it closed for the day. \u00a0Once inside, there is a set of escalators that take folks to a portion of the museum that is located underground. \u00a0Movies play in the museum and various artifacts from 9\/11 are on display. \u00a0Museum entry tickets were pricey (included below).<\/p>\n

Getting to the 9\/11 memorial is fairly easy considering it is located in downtown Manhattan. \u00a0You can cab or take the subway–several subway lines have stops within walking distance of the memorial. \u00a0The memorial is also within walking distance of the Statute of Liberty<\/a>\/ Ellis Island<\/a> ferry.<\/p>\n
