$250 FREE Money from KeyBank

KeyBank currently is offering a one time bonus of $250 for opening a qualified checking account, and making at least one direct deposit of $500 or more. You must use the offer code RETB1014 and a reference code, that you can find in a mailer to get this. Now, I didn’t receive the mailer, but my friend did. Since he already has a KeyBank account, he thought he didn’t qualify for it, so I used it. He isn’t sure why he received the mailer in the first place. If you can get your hands on one of those mailers, I’m assuming you can use it. Free money is always great, and I opened up an account, just to get it. The last time I had a KeyBank account was some time ago (2006) when they offered up free iPods for opening a checking account and depositing within the first 90 days.

I believe just sending funds from PayPal or Bluebird into the account may qualify as a ‘direct deposit’ and that should qualify you for the bonus. I actually did a transfer from my PayPal account into my newly made KeyBank account to see if it will work, so I will update you if that works or not.  I’d rather not setup direct deposit with my work, cuz of the hassle. There is no hard inquiry on making an account, and you can do it all online and fund the account with a credit card. I used my Chase Sapphire card, and it was NOT coded as a cash advance. There is a $7.00/mth fee if you don’t have at least a $500 direct deposit going into it, and you must keep the account open for at least 6 months, otherwise, there is a penalty for closing it. So don’t open it and close it the day after you get the bonus. This makes for great Xmas money, spending cash for that next trip, or paying airline fees. You can use the money for whatever you want, but bear in mind, Uncle Sam will send you a 1099-INT at the end of the year. No big deal as it’s only $250.  Are you going to go for it?
