@USAirways quietly Rolls out TSA Pre✓™

There was no fan-fare, no hub-bub…but it surely seems that US Airways is now participating in TSA Pre✓™.  Although I’m already a member of the CBP Global Entry program, and can participate in TSA Pre✓™, I have been actively watching my US Air since US Air invited me to opt-in.  Today, for the first time, I noticed the status had changed to subscribed.   After a little surfing, I noticed that there are several airports where US Air members who have been selected and have opted-in can participate in TSA Pre✓™

If TSA determines a passenger is eligible for expedited screening through the TSA Pre Check vetting process, information will be embedded in the barcode of the passenger’s boarding pass.  TSA reads the barcode at airport security checkpoints and the passenger may be referred to a lane where they will undergo expedited screening.

Members of the Customs and Border Protection’s (CBP’s) Trusted Traveler programs, including Global Entry, SENTRI, and NEXUS, who are U.S. citizens and are flying on participating airlines are also eligible for the program. Trusted Traveler participants will need to enter their CBP-assigned PASS ID number in the “Known Traveler Number’ field when booking travel reservations. Additionally, CBP Trusted Traveler participants can add their PASS ID number to their airline member profile to have the number automatically sent to TSA when booking reservations.

TSA Pre is currently available for eligible passengers flying on participating airlines that have opted in at the following airport checkpoint locations:

Let me know if you have been successful with TSA Pre✓™ and are a member of US Airways. Personally, I cant wait to see TSA Pre✓™ at Charlotte, the airport I go through security in most often.

  1. Outstanding to see this, as I end up on US second-most frequently out of MSP.

  2. @Matt – can’t wait to hear if you get selected in MSP

  3. Perhaps its “quietly rolled out” as there’s no PHL on the list?

  4. @Dave, that’s interesting. After looking at the Precheck site again it says:

In 2012, TSA plans to expand TSA Pre✓™ for eligible passengers flying on participating airlines at the following airport locations:
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI)
    Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT)
    Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG)
    Denver International Airport (DEN)
    Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL)
    George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
    Honolulu International Airport (HNL)
    Indianapolis International Airport (IND)
    Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL)
Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY)
Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU)
    Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
    Philadelphia International Airport (PHL)
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX)
    Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT)
    San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
    Tampa International Airport (TPA)
Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC)
    Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)

TSA plans to continue expanding the TSA Pre✓™ concept to include additional airlines, as well as airports that participate in CBP’s Global Entry program, once operationally ready.

PHL is in that list, but maybe it’s really late in 2012? Not sure why the difference.

  5. Just tried to add my pass id from global entry in the known traveler field on my delta skymiles account, but it wouldn’t accept it. It seems the format requires 2 letters before the numbers, and 2 letters after (based on the example on the form). My pass id has no letters; my login for global entry does, but the directions are specific about it using your pass id… any one else encounter this?

  6. @SLA – I’m not familiar with Delta’s site, but on US Air I just entered the numbers of the pass ID
