TripAdvisor Acquires GateGuru

TripAdvisor has bought another app to add to its already growing collection. This time they’ve bought up GateGuru for an undisclosed amount of money.

GateGuru was developed in 2009 and is available on the iPhone, iPad and Android phones.  With the app, users are able to view airport maps, airport services, fight information and other information like weather forecasts.

The November 2012 update of the app introduced a whole host of challenges for the company which they said they’ve corrected in the April 2013 release.  So TripAdvisor is acquiring an app that will need work right off the bat.

TripAdvisor already owns SeatGuru and the addition of GateGuru seems like a pretty logical acquisition for TripAdvisor.  In addition to GateGuru, other recent acquisitions have included the popular Jetsetter, a vacation rental service called Niumba, CruiseWise, Tiny Post and Wanderfly.

Steve Kaufer, co-founder and CEO of TripAdvisor, said, “Flying is often an essential part of a trip and we have continually developed our suite of flights products, from the pricing and availability search on TripAdvisor, to our award-winning SeatGuru.com, with seat maps and more. GateGuru nicely complements our existing flights products and we look forward to working with the GateGuru team as they continue to manage the GateGuru app and add great functionality to the TripAdvisor mobile experience.”
