Jewel Heist at French Hotel One Of Many

A luxury hotel on the French Riviera was the scene of a jewelry heist, the latest in a string, with the thief lifting more than $53,000 worth of  jewels. Two safes were cracked at the Grand Hotel du Cap in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, near Nice, France.  The hotel, which is famous for hosting royalty and film stars, reported the crime on Friday.

This is the latest theft in a string of thefts from hotels  in nearby Cannes.

Last weekend a gunman stole $137.5 million dollars worth of jewels from a diamond exhibition at the Carlton Hotel. The thief got away on foot with a suitcase full of gems in one of the biggest heists of its kind in recent years.

A few days later, men with a grenade and hand gun held up a Cannes store selling luxury watches and gems and got away with $1.3 million dollars worth of goods.

Police said the latest heist is a small-scale theft and of the  type that happens fairly frequently during the summer in France’s Mediterranean resorts.
