Sheraton Suites Elk Grove Review

I checked into the Sheraton Suites Elk Grove this weekend for the second time, ever.  I was here exactly 1 year ago as well.  While there are some very good changes since last I was here, there are still some things that haven’t changed.

Last year the hotel was being renovated and there was no club lounge.  Now, the lounge is open and while small, it is very nice.  In fact, I’d venture to say that the lounge seems out of place in the hotel. It’s modern, bright and comfortable.  In contrast, the hotel rooms are darker, the colors are rich, not bright. The decor is traditional, not modern.  It would be awesome if the furniture in the rooms was like the lounge furniture.

What I Liked: The lounge – as I said, it’s bright and modern. They serve drinks and appetizers from 5-7 p.m. and breakfast from 7 – 10 a.m. The lounge is open all day and you can get coffee, soft drinks and tea all day.   Free parking – I was originally planning on staying at the Aloft until a friend tipped me off to the $18 a day parking fee at the Aloft.  The Sheraton Suites Elk Grove offers free parking.  Location – the hotel is easy to get to. Located right off the highway (it’s a toll road, so be prepared to pay), you can get to the hotel from the Airport quickly and there are major shopping areas within 15 minutes of the hotel.  Water pressure – sounds like a funny thing to like, but with long hair that gets tangled easily, having nice water pressure is a bonus!

What I Didn’t Like: Even though the hotel has been renovated, it still looks dated.  The rooms smell a little strange (my friends here also said their room had a bad smell) maybe a little mildew?

The hotel is very responsive, which is a plus.  I had a flood in my bathroom and maintenance was in the room within 5 minutes. The lounge staff is friendly and helpful.  The hotel offers the “Make The Green Choice Program”, which I elected to take advantage of.  After the flood, housekeeping came and cleaned up the mess.  It’s always great to see a hotel respond quickly and well to a problem.

Would I stay here again?  Probably.  If I had a rental car, I would absolutely stay here if I was trying to stick with Starwood properties. If I didn’t have a car, I would likely stay at the Aloft at O’Hare because it has a ton of stores and restaurants in walking distance.
