The SLS Beverly Hills was one of those hotels on my hotel bucket list. The hotel oozes Hollywood glamour and is a playground for the rich, famous and infamous.
The hotel rolls out the red carpet for arriving guests and offers valet service for just $38 per day (ouch.) The SLS is part of the Starwood Luxury Collection and features The Bazaar by José Andrés. The Bazaar is an extraordinary restaurant in the SLS designed by Philippe Starck.
Even though I was checking in at 8pm and explaining that I would be checking out at 10am for a flight, they were unable to provide any upgrade. The room I booked was a Premier room and all they had left was a room with two double beds. For one night, I didn’t mind.
The hotel is dark and with rich colors. The decor is eclectic and modern.

When I stepped off the elevator onto the Starwood Preferred Guest floor, I was surprised to see a siting area and pool table.
The room was a decent size, but it was the amenities and design that made it stand out. Here are some of the details of the room from the hotel website:
- 402 square feet
- Two SLS Signature double beds
- Pillow-top bed available in either goose down or organic cotton
- Custom freestanding bathtub by Waterworks and rainforest showerhead
- Custom-crafted furnishings by Philippe Starck and Cassina Contract

The bathroom was very unique. I will confess, I had to call housekeeping to figure out how to fill the bathtub.

Alongside the bed were two boxes filled with all kinds of things with hefty price tags.
The hotel is really cool – way too cool for me. In the end, while I did enjoy my stay, I actually prefer the Le Meridien and W Hotels. This one was just a little too quirky for me. You never know who you’ll rub shoulders with at the SLS Beverly Hills – while I was there several paparatizi were on the prowl looking for Lil John. I never saw him.
I enjoyed my stay, it’s one hotel I can cross off my bucket list.
