Airport Restaurant Openings In 2014: In With The New

By VGP Guest Blogger Rachel

Some of you may have read yesterday’s post on restaurant openings in 2013 and you will be happy know that 2014 should bring a considerable number of airport improvements. Below are some I’m particularly excited about. I may have plan a trip into JFK for the terminal 4 airport restaurant openings alone!

JFK’s Delta terminal 4 will see more restaurant openings which to me in the most important offering in an airport (that and some quiet working spaces).  Street Food by Marcus Samuelsson will offer fun, hip and international cuisine that is served fast and casual. There is currently a Street food at Stockholm Arlanda Airport where Samuelson is from.

Terminal 4 will also have Asobu, a sushi restaurant, and Camden Food Co., an artisanal market. In case you’d prefer shopping over eating at JFK, Victoria’s Secret opened this week just in time for the holidays and more high-end retailers are opening in 2014.

San Francisco international airport will open a new boarding area in United’s terminal 3. Open to travelers on Jan. 28th, the area known as Boarding Area E will include new interactive displays, new dining and shopping venues, and art installation.

There will also be a yoga room like the one currently in terminal 2. In San Fran fashion, the terminal will be very energy efficient and is designed with the environment in mind. An engineering technique called displacement ventilation will created natural updrafts that will create a fresh-air feeling like being outdoors.

San Diego International Airport is undergoing major improvements as a part of their Concession’s development program. Once the program is completed in early 2014, 87 new shops, restaurants and services will be open throughout the airport. May 2014 openings include food court staples such as California Pizza Kitchen, Panda Express, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Jack in the Box as well as 100 Wines, a bistro and wine bar from the Cohn Restaurant Group. The airport has lots of cool interactive guides and videos on the improvements on their website as well.
