What is the Founders Card? The Founders Card describes itself as “membership organization with exclusive benefits and networking for entrepreneurial minds.” It offers a variety of benefits and discounts to those who pay to become members.
How much does it cost to join? The current standard annual membership price as advertised is $795 however there are always ways to get discounted membership fees. For example, a current member can refer you and you’ll pay $395. The member who refers you gets “FCPoints” that can be collected and turned in for access to Founders Card events, gift cards, etc… For example, you can exchange 100,000 points for a $500 Apple Gift card or 20,000 points for a Founders Card event.
What are the benefits? There are dozens and dozens of advertised benefits. I’ll list a majority of them here and what, if any, success I’ve had using them. However, there are a few top benefits I’ll cover first.
1. Caesars Entertainment
- 20% off most rooms and suites at select properties.
- Complimentary Total Rewards® Diamond Status
I list this as a top 5 benefit for a few reasons. First, the benefit has been renewable year after year – meaning I’ve been able to renew Diamond status multiple times. There is a Hilton Honors benefit of Gold Status, but it’s a one-time-only benefit and you can get Gold status from Hilton from a ton of different sources, so that’s not a top benefit in my mind.
2. Silver Car
- 15% off all car reservations
- Waived fuel refill fee and complimentary gas tank top off upon return of the car
This benefit works! It works consistently and is a great added value.
3. JetBlue
- Complimentary JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic with the purchase and completion of two qualified round-trip flights
- Earn up to 6 TrueBlue points for each Dollar spent on JetBlue flights
If you fly JetBlue at all, having Mosaic status is a great benefit. Two round-trip flights is easy to complete as well. While there currently is no discount being offered, there is frequently a 5% discount for JetBlue flights and I’ve used it successfully many times. JetBlue is one of the few airlines in the program where the discount consistently worked (if at all.)
4. UberConference
- FoundersCard Members receive 9 months of Pro account free
- Ongoing discount of 20% off Pro account thereafter
If you own a small business, or need to make conference calls, then this is a fabulous benefit. I’ve been using it for about a year now and the call quality is great!
5. Vigin America
- FoundersCard Members receive 5-12% off most fares
- Virgin America Elevate® Elite Status Match from select US domestic airlines
If you fly Virgin America, this is a great benefit. You can get a status match based on your Delta, United or American Airlines status and keep it for another year by flying a reduced number of miles in the first 90 days. The discounts seem to be available with some amount of frequency, though I’ve not actually booked a fight yet because Virgin is not in my market.
There are some other benefits which are currently not available that would have made the top 5 (hopefully they’ll be back soon) and that includes a status challenge on American Airlines.
Is there a benefit to having the Founders Card? Yes, there certainly is. Is it worth the cost? It really depends on which benefits you use and value the most. To me, the events are of no value because they’re never close to my location. So I’m not in it for the networking opportunities. I enjoy the discounts on business services like UberConference, Moo, AT&T and UPS. Some are of greater value than others. I also use some of the lifestyle benefits from time to time but they don’t add up to a significant amount of savings alone to justify the card. The travel benefits have been varied over time. Some of the travel benefits can pay for the cost of a membership in one use. Others are nice to have’s and some provide no value at all.
