{"id":434,"date":"2012-04-02T23:26:53","date_gmt":"2012-04-02T23:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/boardingarea.com\/blogs\/verygoodpoints\/?p=434"},"modified":"2012-04-02T23:26:53","modified_gmt":"2012-04-02T23:26:53","slug":"434","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/2012\/04\/02\/434\/","title":{"rendered":"Rethinking 2012 Status with @MarriottHotels @SPGBuzz, @United."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My 2012 Mileage and Status Goals<\/p>\n<p>I usually set my mileage and status goals early in the year.\u00a0 Here it is, April 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, and I\u2019m still thinking through my strategy &#8211; and that&#8217;s not a good strategy.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Airlines<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>US Airways \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current Status: Chairman with 7 segments and 31,175 miles flown in 2012.<\/li>\n<li>Current Mileage\u00a0Balance: 257,432 miles<\/li>\n<li>Goal: earn no more miles\/segments w\/USAir in 2012.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>United \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current Status: Gold Premier (thanks to status match) with 2 segments flown and 741 miles since Jan 1 2012<\/li>\n<li>Current Mileage Balance: 741 miles<\/li>\n<li>Goal: earn Premier Platinum or Premier 1k &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0At a reader\u2019s suggestion, I\u2019m going to try to get US Air to move the miles I earned in Q1 over to United.\u00a0 Not sure if they\u2019ll go for that or not, but it\u2019s worth a try. If that happens, earning 1k will be realistic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Hotels<\/strong><\/span> \u00a0&#8211; here\u2019s where I\u2019m a little unsure about 2012<\/p>\n<p>Starwood \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current Status: SPG Platinum with 48 nights stayed in 2012 already (I\u2019ll have 50 nights by the end of this week.)\u00a0\u00a0 So I\u2019ve essentially reached platinum with SPG for 2013 already.<\/li>\n<li>Current Points Balance: 132,069<\/li>\n<li>Goal: 75 nights (After this week, I have 7 more SPG nights confirmed in April and 25 SPG nights confirmed in May so I won\u2019t have any trouble hitting 75 nights with SPG in 2012.)<\/li>\n<li>Notes: \u00a0Last year I had 98 nights with SPG and so I\u2019m getting to benefit from the Your24 benefit (you name your check-in time and checkout 24 hours later) and I\u2019m going to take advantage of that this week in Brussels by checking into the Aloft at 10am \u2013 awesome after an overnight flight! \u00a0I also now earn 4 starpoints per dollar \u2013 which is making the points add up more quickly. \u00a0SPG is still my # 1 chain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Marriott \u2013<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Current Status: Gold with 13 nights stayed in 2012 &#8211; so\u00a0I&#8217;ve\u00a0qualified for silver in 2013 already.<\/li>\n<li>Current Points Balance: 112,166<\/li>\n<li>Goal: Unsure!<\/li>\n<li>Notes: I like Marriott as my backup because in Australia they\u2019re more affordable than most of the Starwood hotels and in Australia internet is included at all hotels for all rewards members.\u00a0 \u00a0I also like Marriott because I can transfer my Chase Rewards points to Marriott at a 1:1 rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here\u2019s where I\u2019m waffling \u2013 starting in June should I focus on re-earning Marriott Gold (I need 37 more nights)\u00a0 &#8211; or even going for Marriott Platinum (though I think it will be hard to do 62 more nights at Marriott this year?\u00a0 Should I be satisfied with Marriott Silver status?\u00a0 Or, should I switch to Hyatt or another chain? \u00a0I like the idea of Hyatt because I can\u00a0transfer\u00a0Chase points to them.<\/p>\n<p>I gave up on IHG last year because I didn\u2019t find much value in their membership. I was platinum but more often than not found I wasn\u2019t being upgraded, didn\u2019t get free water, didn\u2019t get free internet, etc\u2026 So I&#8217;m not switching back to them.<\/p>\n<p>Decisions, decisions \u2013 keep earning with SPG? is there anything after 75 or 100 nights with SPG?
