{"id":7638,"date":"2014-07-08T12:31:08","date_gmt":"2014-07-08T16:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/?p=7638"},"modified":"2014-07-08T12:31:08","modified_gmt":"2014-07-08T16:31:08","slug":"british-airways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/2014\/07\/08\/british-airways\/","title":{"rendered":"British Airways To Ground US Bound Passengers with Dead Electronics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">This weekend I shared news that British Airways was testing\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/p39prY-1Yn\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Mood Blankets\u00a0<\/span><\/a>that would change color based on a travelers mood &#8211; blue means relaxation &amp; calm while the red signals stress or\u00a0anxiousness. \u00a0I hope British Airways isn&#8217;t testing these mood blankets on passengers impacted by today&#8217;s news or all they&#8217;ll be seeing is red! \u00a0The United States Department of Homeland Security announced increased security measures and restrictions that will make traveling a bit more stressful, for some.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7589\" style=\"width: 690px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7589\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7589\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/files\/2014\/07\/happyblanky2.png\" alt=\"Image Courtesy of British Airways\" width=\"680\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/happyblanky2.png 680w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/happyblanky2-300x168.png 300w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/happyblanky2-608x341.png 608w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/happyblanky2-500x280.png 500w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2014\/07\/happyblanky2-260x145.png 260w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 680px) 100vw, 680px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7589\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><\/span> <span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Image Courtesy of British Airways<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">A spokesman for British Airways said: \u201cBritish Airways is complying with the new security requirements from the US government on flights from the UK to the US.\u201d \u00a0The new policy means that\u00a0British Airways passengers who are unable to turn on electronic devices during security checks\u00a0risk being immediately banned from their US flight and having to reschedule, even if they offer to\u00a0discard the item (though I can&#8217;t imagine who would even offer to discard their laptop or iPhone.)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Any transit\u00a0passenger (that is, someone who is passing through the UK and traveling onward to the US) whose device has died while in transit\u00a0will also be prevented from their onward travel unless they can recharge the device first. \u00a0I can just imagine the pushing and shoving to get to the outlets after a flight lands. Now you&#8217;ll have to consider bringing plug adapters for your transit countries as well as your final destinations! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">London Heathrow Airport has announced that checks will take place both at passport control and boarding gates &#8211; I&#8217;m sure that will make the boarding process even more pleasant.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">This is all in response to the announcement from DHS and TSA. \u00a0This week\u00a0TSA published\u00a0<a style=\"color: #089e00;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tsa.gov\/press\/releases\/2014\/07\/06\/enhanced-security-measures-certain-airports-overseas\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">an announcement<\/span><\/a>\u00a0stating that passengers boarding flights to the U.S. from \u201ccertain overseas airports\u201d will first need to prove that \u201call electronic devices\u201d they\u2019ve packed can be powered up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Full text of the TSA\u2019s announcement:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"font-style: italic; color: #686c68;\"><p>Last week, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson directed TSA to implement enhanced security measures at certain overseas airports with direct flights to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>As the traveling public knows, all electronic devices are screened by security officers. During the security examination, officers may also ask that owners power up some devices, including cell phones. Powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.
