After 10\u00a0consecutive years on the road (and almost 3,000 nights in hotels), I have basically concluded that for a short, 2-3 day business trip I will live out of my suitcase. \u00a0If I have a business suit or something special that needs to hang, then I might only hang that one piece up. For longer trips, it&#8217;s a different story. Since the end of 2011, my shortest business trip has been 15 nights. \u00a0So that begs the question, to unpack or not to unpack?<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_603\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-603\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-603\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/files\/2012\/05\/033-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Metropolitan Suite Bedroom\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2012\/05\/033-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2012\/05\/033-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2012\/05\/033-624x832.jpg 624w, http:\/\/first2board.com\/verygoodpoints\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/\/sites\/2\/2012\/05\/033.jpg 675w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-603\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Metropolitan Suite Bedroom St Regis Hotel<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On a 15 or longer night trip, there could be several scenarios.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One city, one hotel &#8211; this scenario lends itself nicely to unpacking. \u00a0As long as there is plenty space and its clean!<\/li>\n<li>One city, multiple hotels &#8211; in the scenario, I may switch hotels due to\u00a0availability, cost or location. \u00a0I may also switch hotels to try<br \/>\nnew hotels or to take advantage of specific promotions being run. \u00a0 For example, while in Bangkok recently I stayed at 4 different hotels in a 3 week period. \u00a0 In this case, I used one hotel as my base and only took a weekend bag with me to the other hotels. \u00a0I checked my large suitcase with the base hotel over the weekends. \u00a0It worked out nicely, but did mean I had to repack several times.<\/li>\n<li>Multiple cities, multiple hotels &#8211; this is the most challenging scenario, especially on a long trip, as it requires a lot of packing and unpacking. \u00a0I tend to only unpack work-wear and let my casual clothes, shoes and toiletries live in the suitcase.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>What&#8217;s the right balance?
