The Naka Island Phuket is a Starwood Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. \u00a0An exclusive all-villa resort on Naka Yai island, it’s just 30\u00a0minutes from Phuket International Airport. \u00a0To get to the island, you will need to arrange a private boat transfer from Ao Po Grand Marina via the hotel. A hotel arranged\u00a0car from the airport to the marina is about 25 minutes and the boat ride to the hotel is about 5-10 minutes.<\/p>\n

OVERALL IMPRESSION:<\/p>\n

The hotel is located on a private island isolated from the tourist filled mainland. The resort is tranquil and is a haven for those looking or a peaceful retreat. \u00a0A former Six Senses resort, the Naka has kept the adobe-style villas in tact but added the Luxury Collection\u00a0standards you expect from Starwood.<\/p>\n

WHO SHOULD GO:<\/p>\n

While almost anyone would love their time at Naka, I wouldn’t recommend it for children because it’s a quite resort and other guests might not enjoy your noisy children running around. That said, there were kids while we were there, but for the most part they were pretty invisible (thank goodness.)<\/p>\n

LOCATION:<\/span><\/div>\n
The resort is located on Naka Island which is about 20-30 minutes from Phuket Airport and requires a very short boat road from the Marina to the hotel. The hotel grounds, beaches and locale are beautiful. Because of the location, there’s a nice breeze at most times.<\/span><\/div>\n

ROOM:
\nUpon arrival at the hotel we were greeted at the dock by hotel staff. \u00a0Our bags were unloaded from the speed boat and we were taken by golf cart (buggy) to the reception area where we were told to hit a\u00a0gong two times and make a wish. \u00a0The hotel GM personally met us and welcomed us to the island. \u00a0From there we were taken to our villa’s where check-in was completed. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

We were upgraded to a seaview villa with private plunge pool, indoor shower\/steam room, outdoor shower, and outdoor bathtub. The villas are really private and you feel isolated from the other guests, which is fabulous. I have mixed feelings about outdoor bathrooms, but it was very nice to have the option of the indoor shower as well as the outdoor one. \u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

The room had a king-sized bed covered with a mosquito net (nice touch for the nights) and the air conditioner worked quite well. The room was lovely and there was plenty of seating both inside and out. I would highly recommend spending the extra money to get the seaview villa. It’s worth the investment!<\/span><\/div>\n

RESTAURANTS:
\nThere are two restaurants at the hotel as well as two bars. There is one restaurant open for dinner with the other open for lunch and breakfast.\u00a0The resort is unique, they don’t server pork at all due to the large Muslim population, but they do serve alcohol (the concierge assured us there would be plenty, and he was right there was.)<\/span><\/div>\n

Breakfast is spectacular and the service (at all meals) was fantastic. The selection of breakfast items is\u00a0fantastic. You can order from an egg menu in addition to choosing from buffet items. \u00a0At dinner, I suggest ordering\u00a0Thai food at because it\u00a0was excellent and authentic. The Pad Thai Gai (chicken) was so good we ordered it both nights!<\/div>\n

You can take a personalized Thai cooking class in a fabulous private area of the kitchen. \u00a0We took the class and learned how to cook Green Papaya Salad, Tom Yam Soup and Green Curry. \u00a0The food was great and the experience was well worth the cost.<\/div>\n

SPA:
\nThe spa is beautiful and if you’re on the island, something you should check out. \u00a0I could have spent a whole day there relaxing. The menu is pricy but the hotel was offering a very good discount in July so it was much more reasonable\u00a0(assuming since it was off-season.)\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

POOLS\/BEACH:
\nYou’ll want to spend time at your private plunge pool taking in the spectacular views, but the resort pool and beach are amazing too. There are plenty of chairs and areas to relax. \u00a0In addition, there’s a second beach on the other side of the island that is accessible via bikes you can check out from the concierge.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

SPG PLATINUM BENEFITS:
\nAs a platinum member, I was upgraded from the Tropical Pool Villa to the Seaview Pool Villa. It was lovely and a great upgrade. If you’re not there in low season, it would be well worth requesting suite night award upgrades.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
TRANSPORTATION:
\nSome reviews mentioned transportation challenges and problems with airport transfer. I experienced none of that. We were met at the airport baggage\/pick-up area and escorted to the car for the 20 minute or so ride to the marina. At the marina the hotel staff took our bags and brought them all to the boat. The walk from the drop off area to the boat is only about 2-3 minutes and quite easy.<\/span><\/div>\n

SUMMARY:
\nIf you don’t like nature this might not be the place for you. If you like luxury, relaxation, beautiful scenery and attention to detail, then you’ll love it here! The only negative about the hotel is that the pillows are not the best (and we were with friends who said the same about the pillows in their villa.) \u00a0If pillows aren’t a make it or break it item for you, then I\u00a0<\/span>highly recommend a visit. \u00a0I’m sure I’ll be back!<\/div>\n
