Instawalk: DUMBO and Environs

a coworker was going to go up to brooklyn today to see the keith haring exhibit and i was going to meet her there (i couldn’t fathom driving 2+ hours to get to BK for just one museum exhibit, so decided to make a day trip out of it — seriously, who knew there was so much to brooklyn?). in any case, she canceled last-minute, but no biggie. i had more than enough to do! i ended up spending the morning in DUMBO and the afternoon at the navy yard.

p.s. if you’re coming up from philly and taking the turnpikes, bring a lot of cash. tolls up the wazoo! (there was one bridge that was super short and yet $12 — i think on the way to/through staten island?) talk about highway robbery…

Brooklyn Bridge

One last hurrah before I head back to Philly

a view of manhattan from the brooklyn bridge (apologies for the little picture snafu on the bridge cables):

p.s. it’s a tourist mecca, but try the pizza at grimaldi’s. worth the wait in line, but be warned: they don’t sell by the slice and they only take cash. i was able to scarf down an entire small regular (like a neapolitan margherita) all by myself, but barely, and without eating the crust. hands-down the best pizza of this type i’ve had outside naples.

bonus (not in DUMBO):

Have been informed this is Tom’s Diner of Suzanne Vega fame!!! *faint* (Tom’s Restaurant, Prospect Heights)
