Instawalk: Día de los Muertos at the Smithsonian

the National Museum of the American Indian* had a Day of the Dead celebration today, including a live ceremonial performance that involved a cheetah or a leopard or something wielding a whip (which he actually cracked), a skeleton with a scythe, a kid in some sort of animal costume (dog? donkey? mule? not sure), and men wearing funny-duddy masks.

* (which i’ve never been to until today, but either it’s underrated or unpopular or i was just dumb all my past trips — definitely a must-visit sooner or later IMHO, even if only for Mitsitam, the cool café that serves native-inspired food, but avoid the shrimp on fried yucca — the shrimp was rubbery)

Bonus: There are prisms built into the walls that cast rainbows everywhere
