Instawalk: Mexico City’s Centro Histórico

i had an overnight in Mexico City, and since it was my first time visiting, i chose a hotel near the main square (the Zócalo) so i could get some sightseeing in before my next flight. i loosely followed this National Geographic walking tour. it was a bit much to fit into five hours, and most of the places do not open until mid-morning, so plan accordingly.

I think this gorgeous building, across the street from my hotel, is now a Niketown?

The main post office. I took this picture through a gate at the corner and a lady passed by who kept telling me “¡dentro! ¡dentro!”. i found the entrance and…

…whoa.

Skulls at the Templo Mayor Museum

I was really lucky to catch a temporary exhibit on Mayan culture at the National Palace, since I couldn’t make it to any Mayan sites outside of the city. They had everything from jade death masks to a Mayan ball game hoop! Really great interactive stuff too, especially if you understand or can make out Spanish. Only here through April (2014), though!
