{"id":2035,"date":"2012-11-04T15:22:42","date_gmt":"2012-11-04T23:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jett.in\/?p=2035"},"modified":"2014-11-04T09:10:46","modified_gmt":"2014-11-04T17:10:46","slug":"instawalk-seattles-ghost-ramps-to-nowhere","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/2012\/11\/instawalk-seattles-ghost-ramps-to-nowhere\/","title":{"rendered":"Instawalk: Seattle&#8217;s Ghost Ramps to Nowhere"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>while researching the <a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/2012\/07\/the-abandoned-pennsylvania-turnpike-and-the-spooky-tunnel\/\" title=\"The Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike (and the Spooky Tunnel!)\">abandoned Pennsylvania turnpike<\/a> earlier this year i\u00a0 came across Seattle&#8217;s version, the Ramps to Nowhere. built as part of an expressway that would have cut through the city&#8217;s arboretum, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Washington_State_Route_520#Ghost_ramps\">the project was abandoned<\/a> in the 1970s leaving behind unfinished freeway ramps in the middle of a marsh.<\/p>\n<p>i totally forgot about them until early this morning when i was trying to figure out what to do with my last day in the city, and i&#8217;m so glad i remembered.\u00a0these &#8220;ghost ramps&#8221; are much easier to access than the PA turnpike &#8212; there&#8217;s even a small parking lot (the loop <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/search\/seattle+arboretum\/@47.6416403,-122.2969577,17z\">on the map<\/a>) and plop you&#8217;re right there.<\/p>\n<p>the ramps are clearly marked with No Trespassing signs and while it looks like there would be lots of hobos (or zombies) the only people there this morning were middle-aged yuppie couples walking their dogs. (you are indeed\u00a0in\u00a0a park by the arboretum.)\u00a0i was hesitant to go up and walk one of the ramps due to the fact that you&#8217;re pretty much breaking the law in full public view, but i did eventually when the park emptied for a couple minutes. i didn&#8217;t go down very far,\u00a0but that little adrenaline buzz did the trick. for what it&#8217;s worth, it looks pretty clear that many people use that ramp to drink and smoke on. if you go, you&#8217;ll see what i mean.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a title=\"Flyovers.
