Warm or cold, what\u2019s your dream winter travel destination, and do you have any travel plans for the coming months?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>as someone who was born and raised in southern california, seeing and being in snow still has not become tiresome to me, even after living in chicago for five years and germany for two. especially when combined with off-peak destinations, i really treasure the solitude, sights (pristine, snow-covered hills, stark barren tree branches), and smells (wood-burning fireplaces), and tastes (hearty soups, hot chocolate) of a snowy winter getaway.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jonk\/407113883\/in\/set-72157594564498634\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/148\/407113883_8d2c888de2_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Vaxholm, Sweden<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jonk\/407264086\/in\/set-72157594564498634\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/farm1.staticflickr.com\/143\/407264086_d5049a7b99_z.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"428\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hot chocolate, Helsinki, Finland<\/p><\/div>\n<p>my most visceral memory, though (you know how they say smells can do that to you), is the smell of the smoke from wood-burning fireplaces and stoves in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jonk\/tags\/ceskykrumlov\" target=\"_blank\">\u010desk\u00fd\u00a0krumlov<\/a>. walking around the deserted old city in the heart of winter, that smell + the cobblestone streets + the chill in the air + the sound of the river&#8230;absolute magic.<\/p>\n<p>what&#8217;s my dream winter destination? somewhere to see the northern lights. i don&#8217;t care if it involves an ice hotel or a cheap motel, it&#8217;s on my <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1XMcWWVpDknE7TsOvv78RW4jFR38-usah5rqeEklO_GE\/edit\" target=\"_blank\">bucket list<\/a>! unfortunately, no upcoming winter trips this year except for work trips to the east coast.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>part of the BootsnAll Indie Travel Challenge Project When the weather gets cold, do you prefer to head to sunnier locales or do you love&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":59,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"jetpack_publicize_message":"Fly North for the Winter http:\/\/wp.me\/p29h0V-3k #indie2012 #cold #winter","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[5],"tags":[178,1134,800],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.13 -
