{"id":2831,"date":"2013-05-02T19:42:30","date_gmt":"2013-05-03T02:42:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jett.in\/?p=2831"},"modified":"2013-05-02T19:42:30","modified_gmt":"2013-05-03T02:42:30","slug":"i-finally-get-the-beauty-of-satellite-radio-in-rental-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/2013\/05\/i-finally-get-the-beauty-of-satellite-radio-in-rental-cars\/","title":{"rendered":"I Finally Get the Beauty of Satellite Radio in Rental Cars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>due to a variety of factors*, i&#8217;ve never really been big into satellite radio, but it finally dawned on me this business trip why it&#8217;s a good option to have: same stations, nationwide. no more pressing scan or seek or tune or knob-dialing (sorry if that sounds nasty, it&#8217;s not meant to be) to find stations you like. i&#8217;m probably late to the game, but it&#8217;s quite handy! just remember your favorite channels (or their approximate location on the virtual dial since they&#8217;re grouped) and no matter where you drive, you&#8217;re listening to what you want without having to hunt for a station (or listen to commercials).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-2832\" alt=\"photo (5)\" src=\"http:\/\/jett.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/photo-5-700x525.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"525\" \/><\/p>\n<p>my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.siriusxm.com\/channellineup\">channels<\/a>, as i have discovered over the past week and a half (which kept me company as i drove from Philly down to <a href=\"http:\/\/ftuniversity.com\/\">FTU<\/a> DC and through the hinterlands of Pennsylvania to and from <a title=\"Conquering The Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike\u2019s Sideling Hill Tunnel\" href=\"http:\/\/jett.in\/conquering-the-abandoned-pennsylvania-turnpikes-sideling-hill-tunnel\/\">the Abandoned Turnpike<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px\">36: Alt Nation (new alternative music)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>35: SiriusXM U (indie rock)<\/li>\n<li>30: The Loft (contemporary eclectic)<\/li>\n<li>33: 1st Wave (classic alternative)<\/li>\n<li>53: SiriusXM Chill (smooth electronic, kinda meh)<\/li>\n<li>51: BPM (dance hits, also kinda meh)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>i was wondering why the Alamo\/National agent was telling a customer who was indecisive about which car to pick that &#8220;many people like having satellite radio&#8221; &#8212; now i know why. \u00a0the drawbacks, from my experience, are a) no reception when anything is overhead, or even some mountains that are blocking the line-of-sight to the satellite, and b) listen long enough (4-5 hours? not sure) and the programming repeats itself.<\/p>\n<p>*oh right! the reasons why i didn&#8217;t know much about satellite radio:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px\">i normally only rent long-term in Philadelphia, where i have quickly learned that the first thing to do when i get in a new rental is set FM preset 1 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.radio1045.com\">Radio 104.5<\/a>\u00a0and preset 6 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whyy.org\/91FM\/\">WHYY 90.9<\/a> (yes, that WHYY of Fresh Air and Terry Gross fame), which are normally good enough for me<\/span><\/li>\n<li>the last times i&#8217;ve driven long distances i&#8217;ve been able to hook my phone up to the car via bluetooth or USB, so i always streamed music if i wanted<\/li>\n<li>i&#8217;m too cheap to pay for a satellite radio subscription at home<\/li>\n<li>plain ol&#8217; not being present in cars i&#8217;ve rented<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>p.s. if you noticed the indicator on the radio, the CD was left by a previous renter. some self-help thing that i listened to for 10 minutes. it was a guy who was reading too much into (and drawing seemingly disparate teachings from) an ancient Irish proverb&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>due to a variety of factors*, i&#8217;ve never really been big into satellite radio, but it finally dawned on me this business trip why it&#8217;s&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":59,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"jetpack_publicize_message":"I Finally Get the Beauty of Satellite Radio in Rental Cars #travel #travelblog","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[12],"tags":[166,591,657],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.13 -
