researching places to explore before heading to the airport this morning, i came across Ortlieb’s Brewery in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia. i didn’t think much about it, though, because i heard the owners of the property finally got permission to demolish it<\/a> last fall and figured it must be gone by now. after exploring other abandoned sites in the neighborhood, i decided to swing by (the corner of Poplar and N. American<\/a>) just in case. and i’m glad i did, for it was still standing. unfortunately i only explored a small section.<\/p>\n

sidebar <\/strong> whoa. maybe i need to stay in Philly more often when i come out here for work instead of going out-of-town (DC\/NY\/wherever). i figured there was just the historic sites and museums (BTDT except for the Barnes [still on my list], and loved them all, btw). but there’s so much more to discover in the Northern Liberties (from what i understand, a rapidly-gentrifying hipster\/yuppie neighborhood). lots of abandonment, lots of public and street art. and then there’s the riverfront nearby! definitely to-do next time i come through.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
