{"id":3761,"date":"2013-09-29T01:29:25","date_gmt":"2013-09-29T08:29:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jett.in\/?p=3761"},"modified":"2013-09-29T01:29:25","modified_gmt":"2013-09-29T08:29:25","slug":"local-sim-malaysia-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/2013\/09\/local-sim-malaysia-edition\/","title":{"rendered":"Local SIM: Malaysia Edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>who:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/hotlink.com.my\">Hotlink<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>where:<\/strong> right before immigration at the Main Terminal at KUL there is a series of cell provider kiosks, including Celcom, Hotlink, and Digi (see the <a href=\"http:\/\/prepaidwithdata.wikia.com\/wiki\/Malaysia\">Prepaid With Data wiki page for Malaysia<\/a> for more info). i was going to go with Celcom since it seemed to be the busiest but they only took cash. there are no ATMs on the immigration\/customs\/baggage claim level (and you can&#8217;t go back upstairs) so the representative told me there was another Celcom kiosk outside past baggage claim (along with ATMs).<\/p>\n<p>so that&#8217;s where i headed. unfortunately, the Celcom kiosk there was out of SIM cards, leaving Hotlink (the only other provider out there that i saw) the only choice. (again, cash only!)<\/p>\n<p><strong>what you need:<\/strong> passport. no forms, no signatures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>price:<\/strong> i opted for the 1 GB plan for 45 ringgit ($13.94, including SIM card). the 500 MB plan is 25 ringgit. the card apparently comes with free facebook, twitter, and whatsapp usage (see the disclaimer text, though &#8212; i don&#8217;t know if using Twitter via the app counts against it or not).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jett.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/photo-6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3762\" alt=\"photo (6)\" src=\"http:\/\/jett.in\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/photo-6-700x292.jpg\" width=\"700\" height=\"292\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>activation:<\/strong> immediate. she activated the card using their phone but once she popped it into mine, it worked immediately. no APN settings required. also, she had to use a punch to get the regular SIM down to a nano-SIM size for my 5s, but it still didn&#8217;t fit right so she used an x-acto knife to whittle it down until it did. i guess that&#8217;s normal for getting a nano-SIM to work (this is my first nano-SIM phone), since she didn&#8217;t seem to be bothered by it.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>who: Hotlink where: right before immigration at the Main Terminal at KUL there is a series of cell provider kiosks, including Celcom, Hotlink, and Digi&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":59,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_mi_skip_tracking":false,"jetpack_post_was_ever_published":false,"_jetpack_newsletter_access":"","_jetpack_newsletter_tier_id":0,"jetpack_publicize_message":"Local SIM: Malaysia Edition #travel #travelblog","jetpack_is_tweetstorm":false,"jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":true,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"highway","enabled":false}}},"categories":[8],"tags":[464,656],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.13 -
