(Flew Tower from JFK to OAK many times &#8230; I think <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KarlenePetitt\">@KarlenePetitt<\/a> flew for them)<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Flying With Fish (@flyingwithfish) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/flyingwithfish\/statuses\/168405314796920832\">February 11, 2012<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>and, knowing not much about Tower Air (other than the name), <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tower_Air\" target=\"_blank\">i wiki&#8217;d it<\/a>. on the page, there was this picture of soldiers on a Department of Defense charter flight. i don&#8217;t know if they are heading off to or coming home from a combat zone (or maybe not going off to war at all), but as much as i love travel, this isn&#8217;t my idea of getting a chance to see the world. \u00a0don&#8217;t get me wrong: i cannot understate my gratitude for those who put themselves on the line, but seeing all these people in their fatigues trying to get some shut-eye, i can only imagine what&#8217;s going through their heads; my heart goes out to them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:TA9.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/9\/9d\/TA9.jpg\/800px-TA9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>also, i came across this statistic while doing some quickie research on military charter flights:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Not enough military planes and pilots to transport U.S. troops means that 87\u00a0percent of personnel flown around the globe are carried by civilian charter airlines&#8221; &#8212;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessweek.com\/magazine\/fighting-pilot-fatigue-on-military-charter-flights-10272011.html\" target=\"_blank\">Businessweek<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>while i have flown on (commercial) flights with &#8212; and have sat next to &#8212; military personnel in uniform, there is something about seeing a planeful of them that really makes US military involvement worldwide hit home for me.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>there was a tweet: RT @katruns26point2: @flyingwithfish remember Tower air??
