(certainly the <a href=\"http:\/\/icelandairwaves.is\/\">Iceland Airwaves<\/a> festival doesn&#8217;t hurt&#8230;)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>sidebar<\/strong> before i continue, though, i have to say &#8220;Hopp\u00edpolla&#8221; by Sigur R\u00f3s is the perfect track to listen to as you&#8217;re flying in. (i&#8217;ve discovered a live version is available on the Icelandair inflight entertainment system in case you don&#8217;t have it handy on one of your many devices.)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hnAwPeqrdAk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>if that&#8217;s a bit too dreamy\/slow for you, a chillout remix, &#8220;Poppiholla&#8221; by <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chicane_(musician)\">Chicane<\/a> (one of my favorite electronica musicians, by the way) is just as good &#8212; and i think, actually, my preferred version.<\/p>\n<p>[soundcloud url=&#8221;https:\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/tracks\/12467509&#8243; params=&#8221;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_artwork=true&#8221; width=&#8221;100%&#8221; height=&#8221;166&#8243; iframe=&#8221;true&#8221; \/]<\/p>\n<p>again, i digress.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/files\/2014\/05\/l_fe4c1550-661d-11e2-b4fd-810771b00012.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5290 size-thumbnail\" src=\"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/files\/2014\/05\/l_fe4c1550-661d-11e2-b4fd-810771b00012-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"l_fe4c1550-661d-11e2-b4fd-810771b00012\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>but that&#8217;s not where it ends. as i&#8217;ve discovered while here, the entire place just <em>exudes<\/em> effortless cool. not only is it (and the populace) gorgeous, but it seems like the average Reykjaviker is hipsterer than the residents Portland, Silver Lake, the Mission and Brooklyn combined. and it&#8217;s not like they&#8217;re even trying. they just <em>are <\/em>(and maybe not even aware of it?). i mean shoot, even the post office clerk was a blonde Hipster Ariel (and i mean that in the most loving of ways).<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"This hostel. by Jonathan Khoo, on Flickr\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jonk\/14104961482\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7333\/14104961482_abb8840ac4_z.jpg\" alt=\"This hostel.\" width=\"640\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is a hostel. (And there&#8217;s even a brand named &#8220;Muu&#8221;!)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>pack your skinny jeans and oversized sweaters and head on over! if Portland is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=AVmq9dq6Nsg\">Dream of the Nineties<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=TZt-pOc3moc\">[alternate link if that won&#8217;t play]<\/a>, Reykjavik is the trendsetter of today. (to assuage any fears: for the most part, they&#8217;re all nice hipsters since they don&#8217;t even know it &#8212; not the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Nk6LSWr0XP4\">self-absorbed moody and snobby type<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p>and heck, even if hip isn&#8217;t your thing, Iceland is well worth a visit if you ask me.
