Yes, I do eat that much fast food.<\/p><\/div>\n

four days ago, Foursquare announced they were freezing (traditional) mayorships<\/a> in preparation for the release of their new app, Swarm, and the new version of mayors (read more about that on that link). while I love Foursquare for being a history of my whereabouts, so say, i know when i last got a\u00a0haircut<\/a>, being mayor (and getting a mayorship) was always something special to me.<\/p>\n

I got my Reykjavik Harbor check-in<\/a> just in the nick of time, the day before they stopped the ousting of mayors in the current Foursquare app.<\/p>\n

the Harbor mayorship took me seven days to win — and while it may seem like a ridiculous goal (and feat), it does have meaning for me — like all of my international mayorships. sure, it probably simply means no one there is as Foursquare crazy as i am but i’d like to think it also shows a bit of permanence in my travels, both physical<\/em> in terms of my being present there like a local for a prolonged period of time, and intangible<\/em>\u00a0since it’s like a little souvenir that doesn’t take up space or gather dust on the shelves. it’s\u00a0like i was able to finally leave a trace of myself somewhere, even if ephemeral and digital.<\/p>\n

so a final shout out to my international mayorships, may you forever live in infamy (and in my heart):<\/p>\n
