one of the benefits of visiting a place for the second time is that there’s no pressure to DO DO DO and SEE SEE SEE — leaving time for well, for lack of a better term, second-tier places and things to do. this morning, after sleeping in since i was up until 3:30 working, i decided to walk north out of the city center to the Sibelius Monument and continue from there following the “A Seaside Stroll in Helsinki”<\/a> itinerary on Wikivoyage. not gonna lie, it’s a trek, but a ridiculously scenic one — especially when compared to the last time i was here in the dead of winter.<\/p>\n

though at that time, there was no one around the Sibelius Monument (busloads now)…<\/p>\n

fast forward 8 years and several months from winter to spring, and it’s just lovely. on the bayside path up to Seurasaari there were only a few people out for a stroll, a couple joggers, and parents pushing strollers. on the island itself, i think i managed to go early enough to avoid the crowds (plus it’s a weekday), although there were a bunch of kids on a field trip.<\/p>\n

but anyways, the pictures. once you get to the Seurasaari Island open-air museum<\/a> (free admission to walk around the grounds, ticket required to enter the historic buildings) and are done there, bus 24, which runs at half-hour intervals, will take you back to downtown from a stop just to the right of the bridge as you’re walking off the island.<\/p>\n
