{"id":804,"date":"2012-03-25T21:05:41","date_gmt":"2012-03-26T04:05:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jett.in\/?p=804"},"modified":"2012-03-25T21:05:41","modified_gmt":"2012-03-26T04:05:41","slug":"music-through-rubber-tubes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/first2board.com\/wanderlusty\/2012\/03\/music-through-rubber-tubes\/","title":{"rendered":"Music Through Rubber Tubes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>remember the days of yore when your in-flight entertainment was crappy music piped through these?<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/i30.photobucket.com\/albums\/c340\/jonathankhoo\/product2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"398\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">I have come to learn these are called <a href='http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/In-flight_entertainment#History' target='_blank'>pneumatic headsets<\/a>.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>sure, it&#8217;s not some <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/jonk\/2214546749\/\" target=\"_blank\">fancy-pants touchscreen<\/a> where you can watch movies and order food and watch your flight progress, but it had its benefits, especially when you&#8217;re a kid with nothing better to do (those free decks of cards and pilot wings only went so far).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>endless hours (ok, minutes) of fun from squeezing or kinking the tubes, making one or both ears get muffled\/no sound.<\/li>\n<li>seeing if you could talk into the plug end so your brother can hear you through the earpieces. (&#8220;can you hear me now?!&#8221;)<\/li>\n<li>flipping through the audio channel dial quickly to see if you could break it (i couldn&#8217;t).<\/li>\n<li>pretending you&#8217;re a doctor\u00a0wielding\u00a0a stethoscope.<\/li>\n<li>trying to sleep, leaning on a pillow on a propped up armrest, ear positioned right by the output holes. if you turned the volume <em>all the way up<\/em> you could fall asleep to music without being encumbered by a headset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>and yes, i&#8217;m speaking from experience. i couldn&#8217;t have been the only one!<\/p>\n<p>image via <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allproducts.com\/manufacture96\/smartltd\/product2.html\" target=\"_blank\">allproducts.com<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>remember the days of yore when your in-flight entertainment was crappy music piped through these?
