Now You Can Burn Hawaiian Miles on American Airlines

Hawaiian airlines now allows you to earn and burn miles with American Airline flights (this excludes AA partner flights).

To earn Hawaiian miles on American Airlines flights, just provide your HawaiianMiles membership number to a American Airlines customer service agent when you purchase tickets by phone at 1-800-433-7300, or when you check in at the airport.

To redeem Hawaiian miles for American Airlines flights, call the HawaiianMiles Service Center toll-free at 1-877-426-4537.

UPDATE: The redemption chart has now been added to  their website for all three classes:

This might be useful since Membership Rewards can be transferred to Hawaiian Airlines and not American Airlines. Until  June 27, 2013 there is a 20% bonus.

So, how does one go about searching for flights to redeem Hawaiian miles? Good question!

I asked the call center agent and she said that you must call them to search flights. I am the type of person to do research on my own online to find flights so I tried this approach. I searched on the AA website and picked out miles saver economy award availability from IAH-HNL only on AA operated flights to see what she would say. Well she said there were only first class round trip awards available for my dates selected. I asked what the redemption cost would be for first class and it would be 110,000.

Although it is nice to see the expansion of this partnership, it doesn’t seem easy at all to find and book these award flights.
