I received an email that Alaska Airlines credit card is giving its card members one free checked bag from 2/1/15 to 4/30/15 on Alaska Airline flights.
This is a nice temporary perk but it would be even nicer if it followed United & American’s foots steps and offered a free checked bag year around with its co-branded card.
There are some T&Cs of course. This offer is only valid on the consumer card and not the business.card. The Mileage Plan number of the primary Alaska Airlines Visa Signature consumer credit card holder must be in the reservation at the time of check-in. Flights marketed by Alaska Airlines and operated by Alaska Airlines, Horizon Air, SkyWest or PenAir qualify. So no codeshares with American, Delta, etc. Bags also must meet weight and size restrictions or else an additional fee may apply. Also you don’t need to actually pay with your flight with this Alaska Airlines card in order to get this perk. You just need to be a holder of the card.
To lay it out visually, this flight would qualify because it is Alaska metal only
This flight below wouldn’t qualify because it has an American Airlines leg. This is according to the T&Cs and not something I’ve actually tried. I would be curious if this was actually enforced.
Speaking of checked-in baggage, I didn’t realize Alaska Airlines has a 20 minute baggage service guarantee. If your baggage is not at baggage claim within 20 minutes of your plane’s arrival at the gate, they will offer you a $25 Discount Code for use on a future Alaska Airlines flight, or 2,500 Alaska Airlines Bonus Miles. If you ever run into this, then go to Customer Service within 2 hours of your flight’s arrival for your voucher. This is the only airline that I know that has this. Happy fliers equals loyal fliers!
