One of the many great features of Chase credit cards was its price protection benefit which allowed you to receive a reimbursement for the difference between the purchase price and a newly advertised price for items bought in the US within a 90 day period. This was great as there was frequently price drops for many of my items purchased.
Sadly this option is no longer available for Chase cards as of August 26, 2018. So what are my current options now for price protection?
Discover has this benefit but unfortunately this will be discontinued on October 31, 2018. Purchases made prior to this date will be covered and they will refund a price difference up to $500 on eligible items and you have 90 days to file a claim. Claims can be made by calling 1-800-DISCOVER and you must submit the receipt, a copy of the dated lower price ad and copy of the charge on the card.
When you purchase eligible items with your personal Citi Card, you have 60 days to register your item on their website. You must enter the purchase details and upload the receipt. Citi will then look for a lower price for your eligible item. If one is found within 60 days of purchase, they will send you an email and you will have to submit a benefit request. You can get a statement credit or check of the difference between the purchase price and the lower cost found up to $200 per item and a max of $1000 per year.
