Last week I posted about booking British Airways first class from Prague to Mexico for around $800. That was a mistake fare as international first class normally runs $5k-$10k on the route.

I booked it thinking that American Airlines would cancel it as they are now allowed to do to the recent changes in the airline industry. But I thought I would give it a gamble anyway as the payoff would be great if it ended up being honored.

I was surprised when the reservation ticketed because in the past, when flights ticketed even if they were mistake fares that the airlines honored the fares. I was wondering each day if they would cancel.

About a day after the post was published, I received the above email from American Airlines saying that the ticket price for first class was an error and that they would be refunding the ticket. At the bottom of the email there was a notation that they would consider reimbursing me for any reasonable, actual and verifiable out-of-pocket expenses that I should email them to American.

This email follows what I read that the government said that airlines should do.

I was excited about the trip as it would be in international first class but I knew that it would likely cancel.

Perhaps another one of these deals will pop up again in the future and that time they will honor it. It is unlikely now due to the president but you never know.

Did anyone else receive the same email from American Airlines or British Airways?
