Earn 5X Chase UR and get 10% off at Subway
I go to Subway (the restaurant that serves sub sandwiches, not any kind of public transportation) once or twice a week now and thought it would be a great idea to get the Subway Gift Cards at Staples to earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points while doing so.
I then noticed that Subway has their own loyalty program. It normally works by reloading their Subway card with cash and every dollar you spent with the reloadable card, you get a point. You do not earn points for taxes and it normally rounds down. Redemption values are below.
However, there is another way to earn points, by using the Subway Gift card. You can buy these almost anywhere, but its worthwhile to buy them at an office supply store to get 5X with your Chase Ink Card. These cards are fixed value, so the maximum amount of points you can earn is 25 depending on the maximum value of the Subway Gift Cards you buy, but the highest I’ve found was $25.
One other thing to note is that you can transfer these points from one fixed value gift card to another. I just did that last week so you can accumulate enough points for the higher more rewarding redemptions. You can also split payment across two cards so you can drain the first card and then use a second card to pay the balance of your total.

How to get 10% off at Subway:
You will get 10% off if you saved 75 points. At 75 points, you can get a regular footlong sub, which is normally anywhere between $6-$7. That is essentially 10% off! I don’t come here enough to make it very lucrative, but enough to get a free sub once a month. This is similar to previous local store promotions where you buy anywhere between 7 or 10 subs, you get one free. This loyalty program is a bit more flexible as you can get a variety of stuff, like a cookie, chips, soda, etc. See below for the redemption chart.
You can register your gift cards on mysubwaycard.com to keep track of your points. When one card is used up, you can transfer the points to another gift card. Make sure to register your gift card as they will give you 20 points when you do! My 20 bonus points posted within a few days.
Below are the Subway Rewards Redemption chart for USA and Canada. The chart is more generous in USA as a footlong would cost at least 100 points in Canada, whereas it is only 75 in USA. The currency exchange rate still doesn’t justify the higher points redemption:
