As a frequent business traveler to Washington DC and Hilton Honors member, I was delighted when I heard Hilton was opening a new property in the DC area. Quite often many of their DC properties are booked weeks in advance. I stayed two times in June at the new Hilton Garden Inn Georgetown in the up and coming West End neighborhood on 2201 M Street NW. The hotel opened in early June. Their location is a quick 10 minute walk to the Foggy Bottom metro station and right in a corridor with many other hotels such as the Ritz Carlton, The Westin, and the Washington Marriot. The close proximity to Georgetown was also a nice perk.
The hotel staff was extremely friendly and helpful. My room was new (as expected), spacious, and spotless. I especially appreciated the room size given other Hilton properties where I have stayed at in DC that have been much smaller. The neighborhood itself is mostly businesses and is quiet at night. I can’t imagine many rooms have much of a view, but there were nice large windows providing ample light. As I find at most Hilton properties, the beds were very comfortable. The room included a fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker.
As a Hilton Honors member, I received a $15 voucher for breakfast each morning at the attached downstairs restaurant Café Deluxe. The Café had a modern, open, French feel and had breakfast basics as well as more gourmet options such as crab cakes benedict, lox, and specialty coffees. I had the “healthy” start each morning that was delicious and included fresh squash, zucchini, asparagus served with egg whites and an avocado salsa. Another dish I chose with goat cheese had about three quarters goat cheese and one quarter eggs, which was just too overpowering. I would not recommend the breakfast though if you are in a hurry, as service tended to be slow. I did miss the executive lounge that some Hilton properties have to pop in and get a water or a snack, but the fancy breakfast was a nice treat.
