many years ago, i saw this article about this tunnel in Germany that you don’t drive directly into, but rather uses elevators to get your cars down to the bore below the river, and it wasn’t until i was researching this trip that i put 2 and 2 together and realized the Old Elbe Tunnel was here in Hamburg! (note that in the four years since the article was published, they have put speed bumps in the roadway so you can’t just barrel down.)
