Instawalk: Museum of Islamic Art

ever since visiting Morocco nearly seven years ago, i’ve fallen in love with Islamic art. i can’t quite put my finger on it, but there’s something about the intricate geometric patterns, the tessellation of tiles, the detailed plasterwork, and the beauty of Arabic script that draws me in.

the Museum of Islamic Art is housed in a stunning building designed by I.M. Pei — with an interior that outdoes the exterior. the collection is broad both in terms of geographic provenance of the items as well as the type of art, ranging from decorated objects to sacred art to architecture. best of all, it’s free.

one thing to note: the large park surrounding the museum does not open until 10:30, so you can’t even wander around on the property. trust me, you can only spend so much time staring at the dhows in the harbor, as interesting as they are.
