For 45 years, Sesame Street has been entertaining and educating children in the United States and around the world. I don’t think there are too many people who are not familiar with some of the more popular characters such as Big Bird, Elmo and the Cookie Monster.
Sesame Street was conceived in 1966 and began its long run as an American children’s television series in 1969 on public television. The program is known for its educational content and images communicated through the use of Jim Henson’s Muppets, animation, short films, humor, and cultural references. Since its inception Sesame Street’s curriculum has expanded to include more affective topics such as relationships, ethics, and emotions. From televsion to movies – coloring books to stuffed animals – Sesame Street has touched the lives of many children throughout the world.
