Quick summary:
- Flight took off on time but my CDG-DUB flight was diverted to Belfast for fuel. I think the pilot held his map upside down.
- Explanation was that the queue was full in DUB due to heavy rain. Had to divert to Belfast to refuel as we wouldn’t have made it. I would have thought that they wouldn’t just put 1/4 tank of gas in a plane. it was only a 500mile flight! Looking at EU laws for late flight. Flight arrived 2.5 hours late
- Took the airlink into the city. Very cheap and my hotel was the third stop! 10 EUR roundtrip. Easiest to get your ticket right at international baggage claim (inside of customs) at the currency exchange stall.
- The bus driver almost missed my stop. Stopped all of 2 seconds before taking off again. i was on the upper deck and asked him to let me off a few feet down from the stop.
- Got a little lost and didn’t know where the hotel was. Luckily I found some workers from the IFSC and he took me where to go. He warned me about the neighborhood behind IFSC. Not so safe. I was wearing my cheapo DSLR but looks awfully expensive.
- Hotel was a short 5 minute walk. It was also right outside the airlink stop back to the airport.
- Clarion Hotel Dublin IFSC was a 15 minute walk from O’Connell Street. Its not too bad but walk a bit deserted at night.
- Found a real local cellphone shop (got lycamobile, very cheap, 10EUR for 1gb data and seems to work ok) and then found Hot Wok, a cheap noodle stand that a lot of people were getting.
- Afterwards, I ventured to the Temple Bar area and went into Temple Bar. I had a Guinness, Bulmers Hard Cider (also known as Magners) and an Irish Coffee to finish off the night. Meet two other traveling couples and they bought me a drink! A good start of a two week trip!
