Instawalk (fly?): At the Controls of a Plane

this morning i used an expired groupon (got face value, phew!) for a flybayarea.com U-Fly experience, which is basically a you-fly-the-plane aerial tour of the bay area. it was quite overcast this morning but luckily it started clearing up the more west we went. i handled the controls for, i estimate, about 3/4 of the flight.

(drawing is an approximation) We flew east over my neighborhood, down around the bottom of the bay (flying directly over Mineta San Jose Airport [SJC], so cool!), then out to the coast and back

not gonna lie, it was scary! towards the end of my hour in the air i was getting barfy, not because of the choppiness of the air at lower altitudes but because i was so scared of doing something wrong and causing a horrifying plummet to our deaths. yes, the instructor/guide was right there, but still. scary! nonetheless, i had a blast and can cross this off my bucket list! if you are at all interested in flying a plane, this is an experience you can’t pass up.

Here we go!

  1. San Jose Aiport? Isn’t that where you dropped me off for my flight in August ’08? I guess I am lucky that I didn’t have to fly by myself back then. But then again, it looks like an awesome experience. Hope you enjoyed it! And BTW, I still owe you a ride to the airport. 🙂
