due to the columbus day weekend coming up (or so i’m assuming), flights from the bay area to chicagoland are crazy expensive. the cheapest i found was $480 on delta which involved two stops each way and a total travel time of over 14 hours going. i booked this originally, but the timing didn’t work out with my uncle’s funeral (the reason for this last-minute trip, booked three days in advance), so southwest it is, which at ~$680 round-trip is the cheapest i managed to find. yes, that’s more than i paid for my last-minute (12 hours in advance) fare from stuttgart to los angeles in 2006.
