#frifotos — Perfect 10: Images of Perfection

long-time (or even short-time) readers may recognize much of the following, although i’ve tried to pick some different photos for each.

Perfect timing

Taking a Picture

Fushimi Inari-taisha – Kyoto, Japan

Perfect abandoned buildings

crazy amounts of beautiful decay on a large site, nature really starting to reassert herself, and best of all, you’re free to roam.

Perfect hike

Perfect surprise ending

what better way to end a photowalk tour than…

Perfect start

yes, the perfect start was a sunset. after the first night of my safari in South Africa, i knew what the vivid colors of sunset meant: the best part was about to begin (which is saying a lot, given how amazing the entire experience was). that’s when the stars would come out and i could lean back in the jeep, stare up into the sky, and escape from Earth into their far away embrace. i’d never felt so free, and have not since. i’m looking at the website of the lodge i stayed at and man, do i want to go back. a truly indelible experience.

Sunset

Kirkman’s Kamp, Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa

Perfect concert

the final concert of one of my favorite German bands, Virginia Jetzt!, for which i made a special trip to Berlin. not only did they play all my favorites, but i was close to the stage and they ended with a tribute to a pioneering German indie band by covering Echt’s “Du trägst keine Liebe in dir.” absolute magic.

PA222461

Virginia Jetzt Abschiedskonzert, Berlin, Germany

Perfect quietude

nobody but me, nature, the cold breeze, and crunch of snow underfoot.

Tree Silhouettes

Vaxholm, Sweden

Perfect perch

i lingered long enough at a restaurant with a balcony overlooking Djemaa el-Fna to watch night fall.

Djemaa el-Fna - Nighttime 4

Djemaa el-Fna, Marrakech, Morocco

Perfect sunset

Perfect sunrise waiting spot

Bonus perfection: Perfect corporate theme song

a long time ago, i had a thing for corporate songs after being majorly obsessed with Pur’s “Abenteuerland”, which was used at that time in the ad campaign of my favorite German conglomerate, ThyssenKrupp.

one of the songs i came across was the Transaero anthem, but the MP3 was lost to time. lost, that is, until i was reminded of it recently by @thatjohn and i found this video that, like the song, is so bad it’s good. and you know i love me some so-bad-it’s-good-dance-y-europop!

please note the man at 1:30; i hate to say it but that’s pretty typical of my experiences in Russia. and that lady with the sketchiest looking briefcase evar must be the unhappiest traveler evar — i just want to stare at her and make funny faces until she laughs.

note that a version with a bit more oomph (yes, there can be!) is available on their website.
