US Airways Club LAX Terminal 1 – Closing

Members To Use the Admirals Club® – Terminal 4

Whenever I fly domestically through LAX, I have always appreciated and been grateful for the US Airways Club in Terminal 1. It was great for popping into upon landing or for a quick cup of coffee before heading out on a flight.

I received an email today that announced the closing of the US Airways Club in Terminal 1.  US Airways Club members will now have to use the Admirals Club® in Terminal 4.Clubs

Tuesday night was US Airways’ last flight using Terminal 1 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Beginning February 12 all ticketing, gates, baggage and customer service will be located in Terminal 3. Terminal 1 will be seeing an expansion of SouthWest Airlines. American Airlines operates from Terminal 4 and although passengers will be able to shuttle between Terminals 3 and 4 without leaving security, Club access may not be possible for those with short connections or feasible for those with early flights. Here’s hoping that another dedicated American Club might be established in Terminal 3 at some point in the future. It is my understanding, however, that the Virgin America Loft T3 accepts Priority Pass so if you have the American Express Platinum, you would be able to access that lounge as well.

The soft rollout of reciprocal Club use began in January, and, according to the US Airways website, “when we exit Star Alliance on March 30, 2014, club members will no longer have access to Star Alliance lounges or the United Club. When we join theoneworld alliance on March 31, 2014, First and Business Class passengers, and customers with oneworld Emerald or Sapphire status, will be able to visit more than 600 oneworld lounges.”

I asked one of the agents at the Charlotte Club two weeks ago if he knew when the Charlotte Club will be turned into an Admirals Club® and, although not sure of the date, he did say that some transitioning had already begun. I will be flying through Philadelphia next week and I look forward to trying the Admirals Club® located on the 2nd level of Terminal A West. Although not as convenient located for the international departure gates as  the US Airways Club in A East (formerly the Envoy Lounge), I’ve been wanting to stop in and have a look for quite some time now in order to check it out and compare it to the US Club. Now it looks like I’ll finally get my chance – legitimately!

  1. Sad. 🙁 I know many didn’t like the US club in Terminal 1, but I always seemed to spend far too long in that club and then end up having to rush to my gate. Doing that at the AA club now will mean missing my flight.

Sure I could plan ahead, but the convenience of the old club will be missed.

I know… I didn’t go there often, but was glad that it was there. I don’t have an AMEX Platinum… so it will probably be no club for me at LAX either.
