One of last year’s big holiday contests was the “Starbucks for Life,” a giveaway that would eventually grant some very lucky Starbucks cardholders one free item per day for 30 years.
This year’s “Starbucks for Life” sweepstakes, which runs until January 11, again offers 30 years of free coffee, but adds a new twist: there is a game that customers must play if they hope to win the prize. Last year 14 customers -10 in the U.S., three in Canada and one in the UK – won the grand prize of Starbucks for Life in the “It’s a Wonderful Card” sweepstakes last holiday. The estimated value of the ultimate prize in the U.S. was $54,000, and it included an engraved card made of 10K hammered gold. This year, however, only five participants in the U.S. will take home the grand prize during this holiday season’s contest. However, competing in the sweepstakes will also make you eligible to win Starbucks for a year, Starbucks for a month and Starbucks for a week.
How to Play
If you are a My Starbucks Rewards® member and you pay for your purchase in participating U.S. and Canada stores using a registered card or the Starbucks Mobile App,you will receive one game play. You can then go to starbucksforlife.com and log in using your My Starbucks Rewards® credentials to play the game for a chance to win instant prizes, like Bonus Stars, or a game piece to place on a game board for achance to win Starbucks for a day, a week, a month or a lifetime.
So far, I have won several ‘game pieces’ that fit into the puzzle as well as two Bonus Stars.
From December 8 to January 11, 2016, rewards members can collect game pieces for the chance to win.
Update: According to my friend Sam… you can enter without a purchase. See the comments below.
Ohhh, thanks for the reminder. I saw the promo signage in Starbucks last night and forgot about it.
Be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom and click on the small print “To enter without making a purchase, click here.”
You can get 2 free entries per day that way.
I wonder who was the lucky winner? I did this a few times during the promotion but did not win any of the bonus prizes. What bonus items did you get?
At least two of the people were:
“I’ve never won anything,” said Jim, a California firefighter for 27 years. “I got the email that said ‘congratulations’ and I’ve been on cloud nine ever since.”
Jim and Steven, a postal worker from Texas, are the latest winners of Starbucks For Life, and this weekend is the final chance to join them through Starbucks® It’s a Wonderful Card Ultimate Giveaway.

I believe, however, that there were to be more winners than that. If I learn differently, I’ll let you know.
Also… I do know some people who won free drinks and various numbers of Bonus Stars. I won, I think, two bonus stars…. and lots of duplicate entry pieces.
