Uber Refunded My Canceled Request

Update: Uber has updated their app since this posting and fare review may no longer be available.

I just had a situation where I needed a ride to work because my car was at the dealership so I decided to use Uber in Houston. I had some credits I could use so I made a request on my Uber app.

I saw the driver was not too far away from me and would take about 10 minutes. I tried calling the driver but I couldn’t get a hold of him. After 10 minutes I decided to cancel the request and try again since I didn’t see his car moving. Little did I know that Uber has a cancellation fee which is $6 if you cancel after 5 minutes of your request.

Here is the email receipt that I received

Canceled trip

Well since I didn’t think this was a legitimate charge since I couldn’t get a hold of the driver, I requested a fare review. You can do this on the Uber website. Just click on your trip link and you will see a “request a fare review” link after your receipt.

I explained my situation that I could not get a hold of the driver and had to redo my request. I then asked for a refund of the whole balance. Within a couple of hours I received an email stating that I would get my Uber credit back.

Uber refund

I checked my Uber account and I saw my credit back into my account. I’m glad that Uber understood the situation and decided to make it right by refunding me. I’ll continue to use them in the future because of its relative ease of use and responsiveness to customer concerns.

If you are interested in signing up for Uber, feel free to use my referral link. This will give you a $10 credit and when you ride, I will also get $10. Thanks for using the link if you do!

  1. That’s why people love uber. Sometimes frustrating as they have drivers like that, but everything is tracked by GPS so they know what actually happened. Not the first or last time i’ll hear about an Uber refund or fare adjustment.

it seems as if they have a whole army working on fare adjustments as they’re usually pretty quick about it. Driver support on the other hand….

  2. This is great and all, but I don’t want Uber credit as a refund. I want the refund to go directly to my credit card. I don’t understand why Uber can’t do this.

What if I never take Uber again? Unlikely, but I don’t want Uber to hang on to my money as “credit” just because the driver decided not to show up.

Uber gave me credit in a similar fashion but I disputed the charge with my credit card company. I’m sorry, you don’t get paid for not providing services. “Store credit” is not the same as cash in hand.

Bob I agree, I just had the same thing happen. I was waiting on the curb and had a driver cancel without showing up. No ride, I just had uber take $5 from me then give me credit for reimbursement. This is theft.

  4. I checked my uber account. As per yr advise….

    THERE IS NO FARE REVIEW!!
I find Uber website least user friendly and frustrating. There is zero accountability.
