Welcome to MilesPointsReselling – Here’s my Manifesto

I am a miles and points junkie.  For the uninitiated that means I earn free (well very discounted) travel by earning frequent flyer miles and points.  I mainly do this by applying for credit cards for the purpose of earning sign up bonuses.  I have played this Hobby for 4 years now.  In the process I have become a frequent flyer millionaire and traveled in ways I would never have thought possible 4 years ago.

I’ve decided to take my miles and points strategy up another notch and into the crazy world of reselling.  Why reselling?  Over the years, as I have earned my highly discounted travel I noticed one flaw.  Sure I can travel in business class to Europe for $300 but when I get there I still have to spend money, my hard earned money! Money I use to pay my mortgage, bills, food, and everything else in life.  Money I have to be responsible for and budget. Which means even though I just flew my family of 4 to Hawaii for $20 I still have to budget the spending money.  What I want is completely free travel.

For that I need a slush fund.  Money that does not come from my main source of income.  Reselling is my slush fund.  It’s play money.  It’s money that I can spend in Hawaii, Europe, or where ever and not care about.  I have decided that if I truly want to travel for free this is the way to do it.  There is not going to be much on the “how to” here.  The purpose of this blog is to chronicle what I am doing.  I am going to lead by example.  My successes and my screw ups.  I have already been reselling for a month now with pretty good success.  Those sales were documented on my other blog www.portlandtraveltips.com.  I earned about $150 in my first month of reselling.  I realize that is small potatoes and far from my goal of a slush fund but, hey, baby steps.

  1. Love your blog! I read most of your posts within the past 2 days. I’m a beginner travel hacker and I been reselling items periodically the past few years. I definitely look forward to more posts! Thanks!
