Instawalk — Wat Chayamangkalaram Thai Buddhist Temple

beset by jet lag i was tossing and turning in bed starting at 3:30 this morning so i fired up foursquare to virtually explore what was around the hotel we’re at in Penang. one particular place, a coffee shop-cum-noodle restaurant caught my eye with a Hokkien mee that was rumored to sell out by 8:30. at 6:45 i decided to get dressed and begin exploring (leaving the rest of my family conveniently snoozing).

but it was closed.

serendipitously, though, i passed by this Thai temple on the way there that had opened up by the time i headed back.

The restaurant I wanted to go to was closed so exploring this Thai temple instead.

oh the history of this place! a remnant of Malaysia’s colonial history — involving Queen Victoria and the East India Company!
