My Month Long App-o-rama

In this hobby of collecting miles and points, one of the easiest ways to earn them is through credit card sign ups.

Just a word of caution, to apply for credit cards, you should have good credit, you should pay your balance off every month, and you should be very organized.

To have an idea of what your credit score is, I use Credit Karma which is a free service and will give you a score relative to your Trans Union score. I also suggest looking at your report for any discrepancies. I use annualcreditreport.com which you can use to get your report for free annually.

Some people apply for multiple credit cards in one or several days and wait 3 months and do this over again. I usually take my time and apply for several during the month and wait 3+ months before doing the process again.

Just to give you an idea for those with doubt of this process,  here is my Credit Karma score after doing this for 4 yrs. Also I have never been late or missed a payment.

Credit Karma Score

This is just one score but my other 2 scores are around the same.

So here are my applications this month which all have been approved for:

Alaska Airways Card by Bank of America – This card comes with 30,000 Alaska miles with no purchase required and there is a $75 annual fee. The miles posted shortly after my card arrived in the mail. This is my first Alaska card but I’ve heard it is very churnable.

Wells Fargo Propel World Amex Card – This new WF card comes with 40,000 points when you spend 3,000 in the first 3 months. The $175 annual fee is waived the first year. You also get 3x on airfare, 2x on hotels and 1x everywhere else and an annual $100 credit for airline incidentals. Since I also have a WF checking account, I will get 10% bonus on non bonus reward points.  40k points = $400 which I could have used to purchase travel but I went ahead and transferred the money into my bank account. The redemption posted within one day.

American Airlines Citi Executive Card – This is my second card and it comes with 100,000 AAdvantage miles after you spend $10,000 within the first 3 months. You do get a $200 statement credit and Admiral Lounge Access. Many have reported getting the bonus more that once so that is why I applied for it again. I did have to call the number they gave me to move credit around but after a few minutes I was approved.

HHonors Citi Card – I had this card several years ago and canceled it so decided to apply for it again since it now comes with 60,000 HHonors points after you spend $1,000 within the first 4 months. You also get Silver Status but this is mute since I have Gold from another card. HHonors points are devalued but I figured its good for at least one night at a good hotel. At least it has no annual fee. I did have to call the # they gave me to move credit around but after a few minutes I was approved.

Everyone has their own tolerance when it comes to applying for credit cards.  Only do what you are comfortable with.

FYI I don’t get any referral credit for the links. I just thought I would include them just in case others were interested.
