The Sights and Sounds of New York City Part 2

This past Monday, I went to New York City for the second time in two weeks. Two weeks ago, I hung around the Bryant Park and Times Square area. This time, I walked from the Westin Grand Central hotel all the way down south of Chinatown.

Throughout my journey, I met up with fellow blogger Jason from Food, Wine, and Miles at the Ace Hotel for some drinks. Afterwards, I met up with Angelina from Just Another Points Traveler who was in town for a movie shoot south of Chinatown.

I started my trek from Grand Central Station where throngs of people were coming out of work during 6pm rush hour. Nearby, I saw a citibike ride sharing station which I have never seen before. Apparently, it’s a brand new bike sharing program that was rolled out this past weekend. I thought it was a cool idea since there are 330 stations scattered all throughout Manhattan with 6,000 bikes to boot.

I walked along Fifth Ave and saw street vendors selling fresh fruits and berries.

I walked by the New York Public Library where there was a protest going on. I’m not sure what was going on but it seemed orderly.

I saw a street vendor selling hot dogs and pretzels for two dollars each. Now that’s a bargain.

I walked through the Flatiron District and saw another citibike ride sharing station.

I walked through SoHo and the Bowery Districts on my way to Chinatown.

The journey took me an hour and 15 minutes, but I had finally reached Chinatown.

For dinner, I ate at Happy Garden Palace in Chinatown. I ordered Wonton Soup and a Beef Spare Rib dish. Both were amazingly cheap and good comfort food.

The next morning, I walked to the E train station a few blocks north of the Westin Grand Central and passed by an interesting building. I saw a Hofbrau Bierhaus which I thought was cool since I haven’t seen one since I visited Munich last year.
